Is it safe to delete Apple Configurator firmware cache?
Device software files Apple Configurator downloaded to update or restore iPhone, iPad and other devices.
Safe
Its owner recreates it by itself when it needs it, and nothing you made is lost.
~/
What it is
Apple Configurator keeps the IPSW software files it downloads here, so it can update or restore more devices of the same model without downloading again. Each file is several gigabytes, and one is kept for each device model and software version, so the cache grows when you manage many kinds of devices. When a file is missing or out of date, Apple Configurator downloads the current one from Apple.
If it's removed
The next update or restore of each device model downloads its software again, which takes time.
How it's removed
Moved to the Trash, where you can restore it. Quit Apple Configurator first.
The free analyzer finds it and explains it. Removing it is Pro, after a review sheet that lists every move and command. It starts checked in the Cleanup checklist, except inside Documents or Desktop.
