Explain before you delete

Try the app's review on a test Mac: every item, its size, what it is and what removing it would mean, before anything moves.

Updated

Before anything moves, Wombit shows the whole plan: each item, its size, what it is and what removing it would mean. Below is that review for a test Mac, the same one the screenshots show. You can change it, and nothing here touches your Mac.

Would move 56.03 GB from 144 items. Up to 9.42 GB more with the tools' own commands.

    What it is
Xcode stores intermediate build files, the code index and build logs here, in one folder per project. It rebuilds them the next time you build or open the project, so nothing you made is lost. Folders for projects you no longer work on stay behind until they're removed.
    If it's removed
The next build of each project is a full, slower build, and Xcode indexes the project again.

How to read it

  • Safe items start checked. Their owner recreates them by itself, and nothing you made is lost.
  • Usually safe and Review first items wait for you. They come back only after a download, a reinstall or a rebuild, or they're your own data, so you decide item by item.
  • Never touched rows show a lock and the reason: a place the app refuses, or a folder no rule explains. See What it never touches.
  • At most, with the tools' own commands: when a tool has its own cleanup command, the app runs it instead of deleting the tool's files. Those sizes are an upper bound, since a command removes only what nothing uses.

Select a row to read the rule behind it: what the item is, what happens when it's removed, and how the app removes it.

In the app

The app's review sheet works the same way, and every way into a cleanup ends there. Nothing runs until you click its button. See Cleanup, the Trash and undo.

Finding and explaining everything is free, and so is opening the review. Running a cleanup is part of PRO.
