Is it safe to delete Disk images and installer packages in Downloads?

Disk images and installer packages you downloaded, often for apps you've already installed.

Review first

It's your own data, or hard to recreate. Decide item by item.

~/Downloads/*.{dmg,DMG,iso,ISO,pkg,PKG,mpkg,xip}

What it is

Apps from the web usually arrive as a disk image (.dmg) or an installer package (.pkg) in your Downloads folder. Once the app is installed, it runs from your Applications folder and doesn't need the file you downloaded. Some are worth keeping, such as an installer you can't download again or a disk image that holds your own files.

If it's removed

To install the app again, you need to download it again, if the developer still offers it.

How it's removed

Moved to the Trash, where you can restore it.

PRO

The free analyzer finds it and explains it. Removing it is Pro, after a review sheet that lists every move and command. It's never checked for you: it waits for your choice.
