Is it safe to delete Homebrew Cellar?

Command-line tools and libraries installed with Homebrew, in one folder for each package and version.

Review first

It's your own data, or hard to recreate. Decide item by item.

/opt/homebrew/Cellar

/usr/local/Cellar

What it is

Homebrew installs each package, which it calls a formula, into its own versioned folder here and links it into place so you can use it. Some packages are installed because another package needs them. Homebrew removes old versions after upgrades and in its regular cleanup, unless that's turned off. Everything here is installed software, so it's removed by uninstalling the package with Homebrew.

If it's removed

Tools you uninstall, and apps or scripts that rely on them, stop working until you install them again.

What to do instead

Uninstall packages you no longer use with Homebrew. Homebrew removes old versions on its own after upgrades and every 30 days.

FREE

The free analyzer finds it and explains it. The app never removes it.
