Is it safe to delete Microsoft Teams cache and app data?
The new Microsoft Teams app's local cache, settings and diagnostic logs.
Usually safe
It can be recreated, but it takes a download, a reinstall or the tool's own command.
~/
~/
What it is
The new Teams app keeps its cached content, local settings and logs in these two folders. Microsoft's steps for clearing the Teams cache on a Mac remove both, and Teams rebuilds them the next time it opens. Your chats, channels and files are stored in Microsoft 365, not here. Microsoft recommends clearing the cache only for problems with the app itself, because it also removes the logs support needs.
If it's removed
Teams takes longer to open while it rebuilds its cache, your personal app settings are reset, and diagnostic logs are removed. Custom backgrounds you uploaded are likely removed too. You might need to sign in again.
How it's removed
Moved to the Trash, where you can restore it. Quit Microsoft Teams first.
The free analyzer finds it and explains it. Removing it is Pro, after a review sheet that lists every move and command. It's never checked for you: it waits for your choice.
