Is it safe to delete Android NDK?

Versions of the Android Native Development Kit, used to build the C and C++ code in Android apps.

Usually safe

It can be recreated, but it takes a download, a reinstall or the tool's own command.

~/Library/Android/sdk/{ndk,ndk-bundle}

/opt/homebrew/share/android-commandlinetools/{ndk,ndk-bundle}

/usr/local/share/android-commandlinetools/{ndk,ndk-bundle}

What it is

Android Studio installs every version of the NDK side by side in the ndk folder, so projects that need different versions can each build with their own. Each version is a large download, and versions no project uses anymore stay until you uninstall them. The older ndk-bundle folder holds a single NDK installed by earlier versions of Android Studio.

If it's removed

Projects that use a removed NDK version can't build their native code until it's installed again.

What to do instead

In Android Studio, choose Tools > SDK Manager, click SDK Tools, select Show Package Details, clear the NDK versions you no longer need, and click Apply.

FREE

The free analyzer finds it and explains it, with these steps. The app doesn't remove it for you.
