Is it safe to delete Android Studio caches?
Android Studio's system folder, with indexes, caches and local history, one for each version you've run.
Usually safe
It can be recreated, but it takes a download, a reinstall or the tool's own command.
~/
What it is
Android Studio keeps its code indexes, caches and the local history of your edits in a folder for each version, such as AndroidStudio2025.1. It rebuilds indexes and caches when they're missing, but local history can't be rebuilt. Folders for versions you no longer use stay behind; Android Studio offers to delete them when you first run a new major version.
If it's removed
Android Studio indexes your projects again the next time it opens, which can take a while. Local history, the IDE's record of your recent edits, is lost for that version.
How it's removed
Moved to the Trash, where you can restore it. Quit Android Studio first.
The free analyzer finds it and explains it. Removing it is Pro, after a review sheet that lists every move and command. It's never checked for you: it waits for your choice.
