Is it safe to delete Apple container data?
Images, containers, volumes and Linux kernels used by Apple's open-source container tool.
Review first
It's your own data, or hard to recreate. Decide item by item.
~/
What it is
Apple's container tool runs each Linux container in its own lightweight virtual machine and keeps its images, container file systems, volumes and kernels here. The folder grows as you pull and build images, and volumes can hold data you made. The tool can report how much space images, containers and volumes use, and how much of it could be reclaimed.
If it's removed
Deleted images download again when you next run or build them. Data in deleted containers and volumes can't be recovered.
What to do instead
The container tool manages these images, containers and volumes and can delete the ones you no longer need. Its prune option removes only the ones nothing uses.
The free analyzer finds it and explains it. The app never removes it.
