Is it safe to delete CocoaPods Pods folders?
The pods a project installed with CocoaPods, kept in a Pods folder next to its Podfile.
Usually safe
It can be recreated, but it takes a download, a reinstall or the tool's own command.
~/
- Only next to Podfile
- Only when it contains Manifest.lock
- Never inside ~/
Library
What it is
When a project's pods are installed, CocoaPods puts their source code and a Pods Xcode project that builds them in a Pods folder beside the Podfile. CocoaPods can recreate the folder from the versions recorded in Podfile.lock, but the project doesn't build until it does. Some teams keep the Pods folder in source control, and changes made directly to files inside it aren't kept anywhere else.
If it's removed
The project doesn't build until you install its pods again, which downloads them or copies them from the CocoaPods cache. Any edits made to files inside Pods are lost.
How it's removed
Moved to the Trash, where you can restore it.
The free analyzer finds it and explains it. Removing it is Pro, after a review sheet that lists every move and command. It's never checked for you: it waits for your choice.
