Is it safe to delete Ollama models?
Language models you've pulled or created with Ollama, stored as shared layers.
Review first
It's your own data, or hard to recreate. Decide item by item.
~/
What it is
Ollama saves every model you pull or create here, as a manifest for each model plus the layers it's made of, so models built on the same base share them. Models are large and stay until you remove them. Models you created yourself from a Modelfile can't be downloaded again.
If it's removed
A removed model downloads again the next time you pull or run it. Models you created from a Modelfile need to be created again.
What to do instead
Ollama manages these models and can remove the ones you no longer need, one model at a time.
The free analyzer finds it and explains it. The app never removes it.
