Updates and feedback

How the app updates itself, getting or leaving betas, what Send Feedback puts in an email, and what the app reports about itself.

Updated

Wombit can keep itself up to date, and it asks before installing anything. This page says how updates and betas work, what Send Feedback… puts in an email, and what the app reports about itself.

Updates

The second time you open the app, it asks whether to check for updates automatically. If you say yes, it checks once a day. When a new version is out, it shows what's new and asks before installing it.

To check now, choose Check for Updates… in the Wombit menu, or click Check Now in Settings › General. The same place has the Check for updates automatically switch and says when the app last checked.

A check asks this website for the list of versions. It sends the app's version and nothing about your files. An update you choose to install downloads from this website's download server, and the app installs it only if it's signed with the app's own key.

Beta versions

A beta comes before a release, to find problems early. Cleanups in a beta still go to the Trash first.

  • To get betas, turn on Get beta versions in Settings › General. The next check offers the newest beta.
  • To leave, turn it off. You keep the beta you have, and the next update is the next release.

If you installed a beta, the switch starts on. In a release, it starts off.

Before 1.0, betas sell Pro through Dodo Payments' test mode, so nothing is charged, and the test key stops working in 1.0. See Pro in the beta.

Send Feedback

Help › Send Feedback… opens a new email to support@wombit.app in your mail app, with room to write at the top. Below a line, it adds what helps to answer:

  • the app's version, and whether it's a beta
  • the version of macOS
  • your Mac's model identifier, such as “Mac16,7”, and its kind of processor
  • whether Full Disk Access is on

It never adds file names, paths, your name or your Mac's name. You can read and change all of it, and nothing is sent until you send it.

Crash reports and usage statistics

When something goes wrong (the app crashes, stops responding for a few seconds or runs into an error, such as a scan that fails), it sends Sentry, the crash reporting service, a report of where in its code it happened, with the app's and macOS's versions and your Mac's model. A crash is sent the next time the app opens.

The app also sends PostHog anonymous usage statistics: when it's installed, updated or opened and when you switch away from it, which of its pages you open, and when a scan, a cleanup, an uninstall or emptying the Trash finishes, with how many items and how much space. Privacy has the full list.

Both are always on, and Settings › General lists them under Reports. Neither ever includes file names, paths, your name or your Mac's name, and a report holds no screen contents, logs or record of what you did.

Privacy lists everything the app sends, and when.
