Uninstalling the app

How to remove the app, its helper, its login item and the files it keeps.

Updated

Removing Wombit takes a few minutes. Turn off its background parts first, so nothing is left running.

1. Turn off the helper and the menu bar item

  1. Open the app's Settings.
  2. In Helper, click Turn Off if the helper is set up. Items it moved stay in your Trash.
  3. In Menu Bar, turn off Keep a daily history. This removes its login item.

Both are also listed in System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions, and you can turn them off there too.

If you have Pro, also click Deactivate This Mac… in Settings › License, so the license frees this Mac's place.

2. Move the app to the Trash

Quit the app, then drag it from Applications to the Trash. The app's own Applications page lists it but can't remove it, so this is done in Finder.

Items earlier cleanups moved to the Trash stay there. Finder's Put Back still works on them until you empty the Trash, except items the helper moved, which only the app can put back: do that before removing it.

3. Remove the files it keeps, if you want

The app keeps its files in a few places. The first holds the saved scan, What Changed's history, the cleanup logs and saved Best guess answers:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/com.rohitsaluja.wombit
  • its settings, ~/Library/Preferences/com.rohitsaluja.wombit.plist, and the menu bar item's, ~/Library/Preferences/com.rohitsaluja.wombit.agent.plist
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.rohitsaluja.wombit, which holds crash reports not sent yet

To find them, choose Go › Go to Folder… in Finder, enter the folder, and move what you don't want to the Trash. Nothing else on your Mac depends on them.

Your license is kept in your login keychain, in an item named “Wombit license”. It stays when the app is removed, so a reinstall keeps your license. To remove it, open Keychain Access, find it in the login keychain and delete it.

If you set up the helper, it kept a record of what it moved in /Library/Application Support/com.rohitsaluja.wombit.helper. It belongs to the system, so Finder asks for an administrator's name and password to move it.

4. Full Disk Access

In System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access, select the app and click –.

The command-line tool

If you installed the command-line tool, remove it the same way you installed it. Its logs and measurements are in ~/Library/Application Support/wombit.
