Is it safe to delete Cargo Git dependencies?

Git repositories that Cargo has cloned for Rust dependencies that come from Git instead of crates.io.

Safe

Its owner recreates it by itself when it needs it, and nothing you made is lost.

~/.cargo/git

What it is

When a Rust project depends on a crate from a Git repository, Cargo clones the repository into this folder and checks out the commits your projects use. It clones or checks them out again when a project needs them, so nothing you made is lost. Since Rust 1.88, Cargo also removes cached files here that it hasn't used for a while.

If it's removed

The next build of a project with Git dependencies clones them again, which takes time and a network connection.

How it's removed

Moved to the Trash, where you can restore it.

PRO

The free analyzer finds it and explains it. Removing it is Pro, after a review sheet that lists every move and command. It starts checked in the Cleanup checklist, except inside Documents or Desktop.
