Is it safe to delete Codex session history?
Saved Codex threads, one file per session in folders by date, used to resume past work.
Review first
It's your own data, or hard to recreate. Decide item by item.
~/
What it is
The Codex CLI, IDE extension and app save each thread here as a file in a year, month and day folder, so you can resume or review it later. The files hold the full conversation and tool output, so the folder grows with regular use.
If it's removed
Threads whose files are removed can't be resumed or reviewed in Codex.
What to do instead
Codex uses these files to resume past threads. Keep them if you might return to that work.
The free analyzer finds it and explains it. The app never removes it.
