Is it safe to delete Rancher Desktop virtual machine?

The Linux virtual machine where Rancher Desktop runs Kubernetes and your containers, with its disk.

Review first

It's your own data, or hard to recreate. Decide item by item.

~/Library/Application Support/rancher-desktop/lima

What it is

Rancher Desktop runs Kubernetes and a container engine inside a Linux virtual machine and keeps that machine here. Its disk grows as you pull images and create containers, volumes and Kubernetes resources. Rancher Desktop's snapshots are stored separately and aren't part of this folder.

If it's removed

A factory reset removes all images, containers and Kubernetes resources and resets Rancher Desktop's settings, so you go through its first-run setup again.

What to do instead

In Rancher Desktop, remove images and containers you no longer need. To remove the virtual machine and everything in it, open Troubleshooting and choose Factory Reset.

FREE

The free analyzer finds it and explains it, with these steps. The app doesn't remove it for you.
