Is it safe to delete Swift toolchains?
Swift compilers and tools you installed from swift.org or with swiftly, separate from the Swift that comes with Xcode.

What it is
Each .xctoolchain is a complete Swift toolchain, often a release or development snapshot you installed to try another Swift version. The swift.org installers and swiftly put them here, and Xcode lists them in Xcode > Toolchains. They stay until you remove them. Toolchains installed with swiftly can also be removed with swiftly.
If it's removed
Projects, scripts or editors set to use that toolchain stop working until you install it again, and older snapshots may no longer be available to download. The Swift toolchain inside Xcode isn't affected.
How it's removed
Moved to the Trash, where you can restore it.
The free analyzer finds it and explains it. Removing it is Pro, after a review sheet that lists every move and command. It's never checked for you: it waits for your choice.
