Is it safe to delete Python versions installed by uv?
A version of Python uv downloaded, used by the projects, tools and environments uv manages.
Usually safe
It can be recreated, but it takes a download, a reinstall or the tool's own command.
~/
What it is
uv downloads a Python version when a project or command needs one that isn't installed, and keeps each version in its own folder here. Virtual environments and tools created by uv keep using the version they were made with. Versions nothing uses anymore stay until they're removed.
If it's removed
Environments and tools made with that version stop working until they're created again. uv downloads the version again when a project needs it.
How it's removed
Moved to the Trash, where you can restore it.
The free analyzer finds it and explains it. Removing it is Pro, after a review sheet that lists every move and command. It's never checked for you: it waits for your choice.
