Is it safe to delete iCloud Drive?
The iCloud Drive files that are downloaded to this Mac, including the iCloud folders that apps use.
Usually safe
It can be recreated, but it takes a download, a reinstall or the tool's own command.
~/
What it is
iCloud Drive keeps your documents here, along with a folder for each app that stores files in iCloud. Downloaded files take up space on this Mac; files that show a cloud icon are stored only in iCloud. Deleting a file here deletes it from iCloud and from your other devices, so remove the download instead. With Optimize Mac Storage turned on, macOS removes downloads of older files by itself when space is needed.
If it's removed
Files download again when you open them, which needs an internet connection. Nothing is removed from iCloud.
What to do instead
In Finder, Control-click iCloud Drive items you don't need on this Mac and choose Remove Download. To let macOS do this for older files, turn on Optimize Mac Storage in System Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Drive.
The free analyzer finds it and explains it, with these steps. The app doesn't remove it for you.
